The Fender Acoustasonic is a completely revolutionary acoustic guitar design. Fender is well-known for being one of the best electric guitar brands, but is a Fender acoustic guitar worth it? This is what we will find out today. We will review some of the best Fender acoustic guitar models, and why some artists prefer to play Fender acoustics over other brands.
We will review some of the best Fender Acoustasonic models, from the most expensive to the most affordable in order to find out exactly how good a Fender acoustic guitar really is.
Fender Acoustasonic Series
One of the most creative acoustic guitar designs that Fender has launched in recent years is the Fender Acoustasonic. These Fender acoustic guitars are designed based on popular electric designs by Fender. Every Fender Acoustasonic comes fitted with 3 different pickups:
- Fishman Under-Saddle Transducer
- Fishman Acoustasonic Enhancer
- Fender Acoustasonic Noiseless/ Fender Shawbucker (Jazzmaster)
The Fender Acoustasonic then allows you to mix in the different sounds, so you can get exactly the acoustic sound you want. There is a blend knob that allows you to control the voicing of the guitar. There is also a 3-way switch similar to a Fender Stratocaster that allows you to select between the different pickups. The Fender Acoustasonic allows you to have a hybrid sound, between an acoustic and electric. It is also extremely comfortable to play, due to its body shape.
Fender Acoustasonic Features
When it comes to features there are a lot of options, especially in terms of wood choices. The top of the line model is the Fender Acoustasonic Stratocaster Cocobolo. It is by far the most exotic Fender Acoustasonic.
The name comes from the wood choice on the top of the guitar: cocobolo wood. The neck is made out of white limba which is another exotic. The Fender Acoustasonic Stratocaster Cocobolo costs over $3,299. If you have a smaller budget you might want to look at some of the other standard models.
Fender Acoustasonic Models
The Fender Acoustasonic is available in the following models:
- Jazzmaster
- Stratocaster
- Telecaster
There is also a more affordable version of the Fender Acoustasonic, which is the Fender Acoustasonic Player. They also come fitted with Fishman pickups specifically designed for this series. Let’s go over all the features in each model:
Jazzmaster
The Fender Acoustasonic Jazzmaster stands out from the other models because it has a Fender Acoustasonic Shawbucker. This pickup is designed as a humbucker but for the Fender Acoustasonic series. It has a more aggressive sound, more sustain, and a fuller tone when compared with the Fender Acoustasonic Noiseless that comes in the other models.
This guitar also comes with the Fishman Under-Saddle Transducer, and Fishman Acoustasonic Enhancer. It has a mahogany Jazzmaster neck profile and a solid Sitka spruce top. This is a great model if you plan on playing jazz, and want a fuller tone out of the Shawbucker.
The Fender Acoustasonic Jazzmaster costs $1,999.
Acoustasonic Telecaster and Stratocaster
Both the Stratocaster and Telecaster models are incredibly similar. With the biggest difference being the shape of each model. They both have a mahogany neck and a solid Sitka spruce top.
They also come fitted with the Fender Fishman Under-Saddle Transducer, Fishman Acoustasonic Enhancer, and the Fender Acoustasonic Noiseless magnetic pickup. The Fender Acoustasonic has a single-coil pickup tone to it, and it allows you to mix in with the Fishman more acoustic tone.
Both the Fender Acoustasonic Telecaster and Stratocaster cost around $1,999.
Acoustasonic Player Telecaster
The Fender Acoustasonic Player is the affordable version of this Fender acoustic guitar line. The major difference between all of the models is the fact that it does not have the Fishman Acoustasonic Enhancer. This makes the model less versatile when it comes to sound possibilities.
However, the player version is much more affordable and it costs $1,199.
The good about the Fender Acoustasonic
What is great about the Fender Acoustasonic is that it is an extremely well-built instrument, that allows you to get a mixed sound and tone, in between acoustic and electric. Due to being lightweight, it is also a great choice if you plan to play frequently and it is easy to carry the guitar around.
It also comes with very high-quality pickups that ensure that you have the best sound, whether you are recording or playing live. The best thing about the Fender Acoustasonic is its versatility. Allowing you to get a wide range of sounds, that you can combine as you wish.
Another advantage of this Fender acoustic series is the possibility of using it with pedals easily. If you want to combine it with a Boss distortion pedal, you will get a great sound out of this guitar. Combining acoustic and electric sound, in a unique way.
The bad about the Fender Acoustasonic
When it comes to recording there are several other acoustic guitars that seem to be a better choice. This is because due to the way the Fender Acoustasonic is built, it is difficult to get a great resonance and great acoustic tone out of the instrument.
However, if you are planning on performing live, it is a good option. Being lightweight, and comfortable to play. But due to its small body, it is not the best option out there for recording.
